The lyrics "Wrote Themselves"

Writers block. Whether you are a budding musician, a novelist or a simple consumer of art in it's many forms... you will know the phrase "Writers block". A simple void, a vast of emptiness that just overcomes you and leaves you empty without a path forward and sometimes without the knowledge of how you even got to where you are now. That's where P.O.V found itself in the middle of last year.

The band had been working on a series of originals for our upcoming E.P and a lineup of covers to add to our set at the same time. Our drummer Steve had encouraged the band to listen to Paul Kelly's "Deeper Water" as an addition to the list of covers for consideration which made it's way on to a Spotify playlist that was on repeat in the band members cars.

After a while of creating and rehearsing songs for the upcoming shows, the band had found itself with a series of chords, that we just couldn't get out of our heads. The sound at the time felt like we had channelled a bit of Paul Kelly influence and began to be know as "The Paul Kelly Song". We just kept playing the chords over and over again for months. In between rehearsals, dedicated sessions trying to figure out the song, catchups just to figure out lyrics and each time we would scrap what we had or come up with a big fat '0'.

The tune had beaten us and we had started to concede that maybe the melody needed to be shelved and tried again another time. Days after coming to the revelation that this mystery set of chords was not to be our next big song, an epiphany hit like a bullet to the brain. Why don’t we write a song, about the fact we couldn’t right song. A Seinfeld of a song (writing a sitcom about writing a sitcom).. well let’s write a song about writing a song. From this little spark of thought, the entire song seemed to fall in place. In fact once we committed to the idea, it seemed like the lyrics wrote themselves.

Within weeks the entire tune was done and we were in the recording studio laying down tracks. For the band “Writes Itself” has become a distinct signature sound for the band. It’s Indie Rock, done in a Classic Rock vibe with a bit of Blues riffs, that screams ((P.O.V))!
